主要内容：This presentation delves into the contemporary challenges and future prospects of the shipping industry focusing on the ship systems and modern technologies. The needs to address sustainability and resilience of shipping operations as well as potential seafarers’ deficit are discussed. The development of smart and autonomous ships along with the requirements for the regulatory framework amendments to account for human involvement mostly at remote control centres are highlighted providing examples for training frameworks and analysing the higher education role. Approaches for assessing the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS)r economic feasibility are presents along with practical examples. The presentation concludes with ideas on future research directions for developing safe and sustainable intelligent and autonomous ecosystems.
